The Yom Tov of Chanukah generated rays of light and joy to all YTT students, who celebrated each day in all its glory. Even prior to Chanukah, seven classes visited various nursing homes around Chicago to spread the simchah of the upcoming chag. The boys provided much chizuk to the elderly residents with their songs and radiant smiles, thereby creating a beautiful kiddush Hashem. On the first day of Chanukah, YTT was graced with the presence of the Zidichover Rebbe, Harav Yehoshua Heschel Eichenstein, who spoke at the 6-8 grade mesibah and then personally distributed half-dollars to all the boys. There was a moving kumzitz, and the atmosphere in the room was electric as the boys sang and danced in unison. As a special treat for the second day of Chanukah, an ice cream bar with all the trimmings was set up for dessert. It was truly the icing on the cake to a wonderful day. On Tuesday, the long-awaited Minyonare Auction took place, in which the 6-8 grades had the opportunity to redeem their Minyonare points and “purchase” tickets to many fabulous prizes. Some happy winners included those who won the privilege of going out to lunch during class time, as well as those who secured free tickets to go sky diving at iFLY Chicago! The highlight of the week was the mega mesibah for each grade, which took place on the fourth day of Chanukah. The boys enjoyed a delicious spread of hot dogs, French fries, chocolate coins, and soda. The live music lent an uplifting aura of a Rebbishe tisch, especially with the rousing song Ahallelah, which the boys had all learned through the CDs that Rabbi Muller had distributed before Chanukah for this purpose. The enthusiasm in the room was contagious! Several exciting prizes were raffled off, much to the boys’ delight. To top off the spectacular event, the younger grades watched a comical and engaging dog show. The upper grades were mesmerized by the talented illusionist, Mr. David Blatt, a Lakewood yungerman whose sharply honed skills kept the boys riveted throughout the program. Although Chanukah has since faded away, those warm memories will undoubtedly carry the boys through the long winter ahead…
