About Keshet
The Ariella Joy Frankel Keshet Day School in Northbrook is a unique program that provides individualized educational programming for students with special needs, grades kindergarten through 8th. Students are taught daily in a one-to-one setting, with additional instruction in small groups. Therapists not only work with the students in their classrooms, but also provide some small group work in other adapted settings, such as the motor room, sensory room, and kitchen, as well as on community outings. The Northbrook program also offers enrichment activities that include art therapy, canine therapy and drama classes. Equally important to establishing an environment of inclusion, the Dorf Peer Buddy Mentoring Program provides structured opportunities throughout the day for mainstream school children to socialize with the children of Keshet, building friendships and a deep sense of respect and acceptance into each student’s experience. All students have the opportunity to integrate daily with their typical peers in the Sager Solomon Schechter Day/Middle Schools. Additionally, Schechter peer mentors come to the Keshet classrooms to work with our students in their own setting. The students of the Keshet/Yeshivas Tiferes Tzvi (YTT) and Joan Dachs Bais Yaakov classrooms are actively involved with integration, school jobs and academic learning. Again with peer buddy assistance, Keshet students participate in morning prayer with fellow mainstream students, and join the others for various classes and activities throughout the day.
